Shelf Care English Society – End of year round-up

Written by Steffi McIntyre,
Teacher of English
The end of the academic year is in sight and all I can say is ‘WOW!’
We have had an incredible year.
At the beginning of the term, our fifth edition was very special! Here are some of the highlights:
🖊️ 32 fabulous entries
🖊️ For the first time ever, we have had entries from Primary all the way up to KS5.
🖊️ Longer entries of exceptional work – spanning three or four parts.
🖊️ Beautiful examples of collaborations
🖊️ Vocab Vacation, Analysis Angle and Awareness SMSC Check are all still features this month.
🖊️🍎 BIG shout out to Primary as well as we have had a beautiful collaborative and reflective piece from a Y3 class who even included illustrations! They have received certificates for their hard work.
But that’s not all. Now we have finished the year we have produced a special bumper edition of Shelf Care to celebrate all your finest work. In our first year of Shelf Care we were blown away with the 50 submissions we received. Now we are in our second year, I am pleased to share that we have had almost triple the amount of entries with 145 submissions that we have read through and published in Shelf Care: A Year in Words.
It gives us all the opportune moment to look back and see how much Shelf Care has grown all because of our incredible, hardworking, talented and creative students. As we look over the final bumper edition, we are proud of the highlights:
⭐ Six newsletters with an engaging range of themes and prompts (including World Book Day content!) to encourage independent or collaborative work.
⭐Submissions from KS2 all the way up to KS5!
⭐ 145 pieces of student work
⭐ 95 pages of your original content
⭐ New segments including Student Snippets, Awareness Check, Collaboration Corner, Poetry Nook, and Analytical Writing.
⭐ Pieces to support and improve such as Vocabulary Vacation
⭐ A range of high-quality work: from interviews to novels; from essays to poems!

Shelf Care now celebrates the end of its second year and celebrates all the incredible pieces we have received. A huge well done to our 2024-2025 academic cohort on their tremendous feats. We cannot wait to return in September to see even more from our students – they always strive to achieve their full potential, and we are so proud of that!
A huge well done and thank you!
We wish all our students on our penultimate week the very best, whatever that may be. May the summer holidays be restful and full of opportunities for reading, writing, and creative freedom!
Miss Steffi and the English Crew.
