Global Wellness Day
What is Global Wellness Day?
This is a day focusing on the belief that everyone has the right to live well. It takes place on the 14th June. It is a not-for-profit day and social project dedicated to living well. The main aims of the day are:
- To recognize the value of our lives
- To pause and think, even if for just one day of the year
- To be free from the stress of everyday life
- To make peace with ourselves To raise awareness about living well and increase motivation, not just for today, but for the remaining 364 days of the year
How can we improve our wellness?
Rather than trying to overhaul our daily lives with changes that may be difficult to upkeep, the organisers of Global Wellness Day suggest we start by trying to incorporate a few of these steps into our daily lives:
- Walk for an hour a day
- Drink more water
- Avoid using plastic bottles
- Eat healthy food
- Do a good deed
- Have a meal with your family or friends
- Get a good night’s sleep, 8-10hrs is recommended
Try out quick self-care check in!
Breathing exercises can be a quick and easy way to calm ourselves down, ground ourselves or simply check in on our bodies. Breathing exercises have been proven to rapidly reduce levels of anxiety and slow our heart rates in a matter of minutes.
Did you know – soldiers and military personnel are taught breathing exercises to enable them to stay calm and think clearly when in combat!
How do I do it?
- Start by taking a deep breath in whilst counting to 4.
- Hold your breath in for another 4 seconds.
- Then slowly, release your breath whilst counting to 4.
- Pause here for another 4 seconds.
And repeat! It is that simple – alternatively, whilst breathing our you could replace the counting for a motivation or calming statement, such as ‘mind slowing down’ or ‘I can do this’.
