Parent & Carer Hub Newsletter – End of Term Highlights

A term of connection, learning, and growing together

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we come to the end of a busy and positive first half of the autumn term, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on what we’ve achieved together and share what’s coming next for our Tute community.

Topics we’ve explored this term

Since September, we’ve been focusing on starting the year strong and helping students settle back into online learning routines.

Our blogs and resources this term have supported families with:

World Mental Health Day – raising awareness of how important it is for every young person to have the support they need when they need it

Easing the transition back into structured learning

Protecting personal information online

The introduction of the 3-star approach

At Tute, every lesson is a fresh start. We want every student to feel positive, supported, and ready to learn and our 3-star approach helps make that happen.

At the beginning of each lesson, every student starts with 3 stars. These stars represent our shared expectations for a respectful and focused classroom where everyone can do their best.

Students earn their stars by:
⭐ Listening respectfully and waiting their turn to speak
⭐ Using polite, considerate language
⭐ Following instructions and staying focused on learning
⭐ Showing respect for their teacher and peers

  • If a star is lost, the teacher will calmly explain what can be improved so the student has a clear chance to turn things around because learning from small mistakes is part of the process.
  • If all three stars are lost, the student takes a short 10-minute break from the lesson tools to refocus. During this time, they can still see and hear the lesson and can message their teacher privately if they need support. After 10 minutes, they’re welcomed straight back to continue learning with a clean slate.

This approach encourages reflection, self-control, and responsibility – all within a safe, supportive space where every child knows they are valued, and every lesson is a chance to shine.

New this week: Checking in on confidence and enjoyment

This week, we introduced a new feature on the Tute platform to help us understand how learning feels for our students. Each Wednesday, when students log in, they now see a short pop-up asking two quick questions – how confident they feel in their learning and how much they’re enjoying their lessons.

It takes less than 30 seconds to complete and gives our teachers and team valuable insight into how students are feeling from week to week. These quick check-ins help us celebrate growing confidence, spot when a little extra support might be needed, and keep online learning positive and engaging.

All responses are private and not used for grading, they simply help us make sure every student feels supported, connected, and happy in their learning.

As we move into the next half term, this new feature will be a great way to keep track of how students are feeling and ensure their learning experience stays positive and rewarding.

Virtual Coffee Mornings

It’s been wonderful to see parents and carers join our Virtual Coffee Morning on 12th September, where we shared practical ideas for easing back into routine.

Our next session will take place on Thursday 24th October, focusing on:
🧠 Supporting mental health and wellbeing at home – you can join from the link in the Parent Carer Hub.

Looking ahead:

  • November Coffee Morning: School Pressure, Motivation & Avoidance
  • December Coffee Morning: Online Safety & Managing Digital Influence

Keep an eye on the Hub for dates and joining links – we’d love for you to come along!

Join our Parent Panel

We’re still on the lookout for members for our Parent & Carer Panel – a new way for you to share your views, feedback, and ideas directly with us.

The panel is open to all parents and carers, and you don’t need any special expertise, just a willingness to share your perspective and help us keep students at the heart of everything we do.

If you’d like to be part of the panel, click here to express your interest Parent/Carer Panel

We’d love for you to get involved!

Coming next half term

After the break, we’ll be sharing new blogs and discussions on:

  • Coping with anxiety – practical tools to help students manage worries and build resilience
  • Online gaming safety – helping families navigate boundaries and keep playtime positive

Our staff will also be taking part in training with Papyrus, the national charity for the prevention of young suicide. Following this, we’ll share key takeaways and guidance on how we can continue to support one another as a community.

Anti-Bullying Week: The Power of Good

From 10th–14th November, we’ll be proud to join this important campaign celebrating “The Power of Good.”

Throughout the week, we’ll share themed content, resources, and opportunities for students to reflect on how small acts of kindness, inclusion, and empathy can make a big difference, both online and offline. More details on how you and your child can get involved will be shared closer to the time.

Special days to look out for

As we move into the next half term, we’ll also be marking:

  • Remembrance Day
  • Children in Need
  • …and then it will be the countdown to – dare we say it – Christmas! 🎄
