Shelf Care English Society – Spring Term

Written by Steffi McIntyre,

Teacher of English

Shelf Care is BLOOMING in Spring!

Shelf Care started to reshape its identity during Term Two. We looked at what you wanted and what you were writing. We saw your interests and your passions shine through, and we captured each one of them!

Half Term Three (HT3) was our best submission window yet! Maybe we were all inspired and generous following the New Year – but we had a brilliant time reading all your work.

In the HT3 feature, we celebrated:

🎉 40 submissions

🎉 23 pages of great content

🎉 A new chapter by chapter series by Roxy (Spotlight on page 2)

🎉 More work coming from lesson collaborations

🎉 KS3 Student Snippets – for if you don’t have a lot to say, but what you say is brilliant and should be celebrated.

🎉 Collaboration Corner, Awareness Creations, and Poetry Nook – still continuing!  🎉 A brand new vocabulary section – Vocabulary Vacation!

And even as we entered a busy and BOOMING Half Term 4 (HT4), you were still being incredibly imaginative.

In the HT4 feature, we celebrated:

📖 27 pages of great content

📖 27 Unique pieces of work from students

📖 4 Class examples from World Book Day 2025!

📖 A small selection of pet photos that were submitted for World Book Day!

📖 Awareness Check: Talking about big SMSC topics.

📖 Analytical Angle: Example Model Answer for our GCSE students. 📖Vocabulary Vacation: 10 MORE words you should try and use in your writing.

I can’t wait to see what our final term holds before we release the Mega Bumper Edition of Shelf Care to celebrate achievements across the year and congratulate our Big Voices – students who have contributed multiple times to Shelf Care – we will have to get a leaderboard out! 🏆

We will share a little secret with you though… 👀

As of the end of Term 2, and the publication of our four Shelf Care newsletters, I am proud to say we have had 100 entries in total. That’s right! The big 100! 💯

At the end of last year, we reached 50 entries by the end of the year!

💎 So that is just another reminder of how epic you all are! 💎

Have a wonderful final term for the 2025 academic year and remember to stay creative! ⭐
