NTP Scargill Junior School Case Study

About Scargill Junior School

Scargill Junior school, part of the Hornchurch Academy Trust, provides high-quality education and opportunities for pupils aged 7-11 years old in the London Borough of Havering. Committed to striving for success, the school promotes a broad curriculum which equips pupils with the necessary skills to flourish in life, while encouraging children to be passionate, enthusiastic, and caring.

Working with Tute – NTP Tuition Partner

Like many schools up and down the country, Scargill Junior School has been working hard to support pupils with their education recovery after a year of lockdowns and school closures. With studies by The Education Endowment Fund (EEF) showing that extra tuition can positively impact pupils who have fallen behind in their learning, the school sought additional tutoring for pupils who were struggling to catch up on their Mathematics  during Covid-19.

In the 2021 summer term, Scargill Junior School selected Tute as its National Tutoring Programme (NTP) Tuition Partner to provide multiple catch-up classes for children across years three, four, five and six in maths. The school chose Tute based on the quality of their live, interactive online lessons and extensive expertise, having delivered 65,000 online lessons to over 11,000 pupils across the UK since 2012, long before remote learning became the norm in schools.

Tute's impact - boosting progress and attainment

Working alongside Scargill Junior School, we developed a targeted programme of 20 curriculum-aligned maths lessons delivered to pupils over ten weeks in May-July 2021.

Tute’s catch up provision successfully helped Scargill pupils to improve and address individual gaps in their math’s knowledge and understanding:
